Florian De Castro (Class of 1998)Florian retired from the Air Force in 2017 and served as a Nuclear, Space, Cyber, and Missile Defense Operations subject matter expert. He served in multiple staff duties and assignments ranging from Chief of Operations, Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Space Center (MDSC); Nuclear Operations and Cyber Defense Cell Chief for NATO’s Allied Joint Force Command at Naples, Italy; and Air Force Space Command (AFSPC) MAJCOM tour as the Branch Chief for Space and Cyber Operational Integration and Chief Scientist, Director of Staff and Vice Commander Executive Officer tours.
Florian’s operational unit assignments ranged from a Command tour for the tracking station at Thule, Greenland, Space operations with the Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN) at Schriever AFB, and ICBM operations during 9-11 at Minot AFB. Florian was enlisted prior to attending USAFA’s Preparatory School and Academy and served as a network warfare and intelligence operations specialist. He is involved in his son’s Boy Scout Troop, part of Colorado Springs SCORE Mentors, and has taught financial planning and management to military personnel for Schriever AFB’s Chaplain Office. Florian and his wife, Lenie, and their son, Dylan, currently reside in Colorado Springs. Florian is interested in promoting National and Air Force objectives and goals regarding Entrepreneurship and STEM to include increasing the interaction between Colorado Springs’ schools and local military organizations and units. Florian sees an opportunity to serve, enable, and enhance USAFA’s and Air Force’s goals through increase interaction between graduates, cadets, and local community groups especially in the areas regarding Entrepreneurship and STEM. |
